I am especially proud not only because of the amazing performances from Patrick Rondat, Martin Helmantel, Dirk Bruinenberg & yours truely, but also grateful to my band members at the time for giving me the opportunity to produce this album.
The instruments were all recorded at Sonora studio in Spain, which was originally built to the same specifications as Abbey Road studio London including their infamous Rupert NEVE mixing console used by The Beatles, Pink Floyd & many more.
Here’s an anecdote for you! “I flew out to Madrid ahead of time to prepare all the Lead & BV vocal tracks, which I had recorded in my old home studio attic. Sonora was having a brand new SSL 4000 fully automated mixing console installed (another reason I wanted to produce & mix there). Fortunately for me (& Elegy), the Sonora in-house sound engineer at the time (who was amazing), showed me the original Neve console, which was ready to be shipped off to Lenny Kravitz who they said was the buyer? So I had this crazy idea to carefully remove and borrow one of the analogue channel strips, then record the bass and guitars direct via the Neve channel strip into the SSL to get the ultimate Analogue combination. So Elegy’s Principles of Pain album has a vintage touch and a bit of the Abbey Road Neve analogue magic courtesy of Lenny K….thanks mate hugs Ian!
PS, I recently did a fact check & googled if Lenny Kravitz ever bought a Neve mixing console. Apparently he did, but from a studio in Italy just so you know. But we did get to use the Neve parts who ever the new owner was.. A nice memory I wanted to share from 2001!

Signing Announcement: Ian Parry’s Consortium Project VI – “Legacy of Empires”
Frontiers Records Srl, in collaboration with partners worldwide, is proud to announce the March 2026 release of Ian Parry’s Consortium Project VI – “Legacy of Empires.”
Marking the sixth chapter of Parry’s long-running progressive metal saga, Legacy of Empires journeys deep into a fictional past — unveiling humanity’s cosmic beginnings and the ancient alien architects who shaped our destiny. Building upon the powerful themes explored across the first five Consortium Project albums, this new chapter dives into the origins of A.I. intelligence, introduced to Earth by an exiled alien Pharaoh and his destined Queen as they flee oppression in search of a new world.
Concept. Prog. Power. Myth. Metal. This is the Consortium legacy ascending to its next evolution.

A touch of Nostalgia. In 1995 I filmed this promotional video called “Wildhearts” taken from my 3rd solo album Ian Parry “Through The Looking-Glass” 2024 Remaster.
We filmed the video in and around the original warehouses on the Wilhelminakade in the Rotterdam haven, Netherlands, which has since been removed, so I am glad we have this nostalgic video.
I restored the original video from VHS video tape as good as possible & added the 2024 remastered sound track. Finally “Wildhearts” has its debut on Youtube & the complete album “Through The Looking – Glass” after almost 30 years has its debut digital release on all streaming platforms worldwide.

Bass guitar on “Wildhearts” was performed by Marcel van der Zwam (Consortium Project/Wishcraftt)
Filmed by Danny Bliek (Imago Clip) Rotterdam, Netherlands
Produced & remastered by Ian Parry
Mixed by Oscar Holleman (Within Temptation/Krezip).
